In a boost regulator, the output voltage is higher than the input voltage, and the switch is turned on and off to control the output voltage. In a buck-boost regulator, the output voltage can be either higher or lower than the input voltage, depending on the duty cycle of the switch.

DC-DC switching regulators can be implemented using a variety of switch technologies, including BJTs, MOSFETs, and IGBTs. The choice of switch technology depends on the specific application requirements, such as voltage and current ratings, switching frequency, and cost.
